Of particular note is the streak of five national championship appearances and the 2024 silver medal — a result the university had never achieved before.

A three-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Coach of the Year, Jones has accumulated the highest number of victories in the program’s history — 41 team wins. Dale Dover: An Era of Triumph for Darton State

 

Dale Dover dedicated 13 years to the Darton State men’s team, rising from assistant coach to program director. During this time, his team secured 51 victories, won three consecutive national titles in NJCAA Division II (2005–2007), and claimed regional championships for 12 straight years. The NJCAA — the National Junior College Athletic Association — brings together institutions across the country and identifies future stars of American sports.

Dover was the first in history to receive the national Dave Williams Award for NJCAA coaches after the GCAA began recognizing specialists at this level. His athletes are among the strongest players to earn PING First Team All-America honors, and many of them later pursued successful careers. Dover’s hallmark is his ability to identify and cultivate talent as well as create an atmosphere of trust and support within the team.

Mike Cook: The Architect of Coastal Georgia’s Elite Program

Mike Cook became the first head coach of the men’s golf team at the College of Coastal Georgia in 2010. His assignment was to build the team from the ground up, and in a short time he turned the Mariners into one of the strongest collegiate programs in the NAIA. The NAIA — the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics — includes institutions that promote a high level of collegiate sports.

Under Cook’s leadership, the team won two consecutive national titles and reached the final stage of the national championship 11 times. The number of team victories reached 46, including a record eight wins in the 2014–2015 season. Cook’s athletes earned 53 All-America distinctions — 28 from the NAIA and 25 from PING All-America, an award granted to the best players in collegiate golf. Additionally, more than forty players were recognized as All-Conference standouts, and 17 became GCAA All-America Scholars. The coach places particular emphasis on technical development and fostering strong team spirit, which enables his athletes to consistently rank among the leaders.
